Both BISD High Schools Named to Newsweek List

Both Boerne ISD high schools have been named among the top 500 public high schools in the country by a newly released Newsweek study.

“America’s Top High Schools 2014” ranks Boerne High School 167th on its list and Boerne Champion High School 476th. The magazine reviewed data from almost 14,500 schools across the nation in developing a short list of 4,400. The top 500 schools were evaluated based on criteria that included students’ college readiness, graduation rates and other factors. The study was based on the 2011-12 academic year, the most recent year data is available from the NCES federal database.

“Quality instruction, engaged students and involved parents will carry the day every time,” said Boerne ISD superintendent David Stelmazewski. “Obviously, we are very pleased to have the hard work that takes place in Boerne schools recognized in this fashion. It is truly a reflection on the entire district because a majority of the high school students whose results were part of the study moved up through our elementary and middle schools. It is a win for the entire district.”

Other Texas schools of note joining the two Boerne schools on the list include Highland Park, Lake Travis, Westlake and Alamo Heights. Full results of the study are available online at www.newsweek.com/high-schools/americas-top-schools-2014.
