Vibrant communities of gifted artists have called the Hill Country home for generations. Once a month they open the gallery doors and uncork the bottles in a warm and welcoming atmosphere to celebrate art, wine and other goodies. Always free, it’s the perfect way to spend a few leisurely weekend hours discovering one-of-a-kind artistic treasures with fellow enthusiasts.

Second Saturday Art and Wine, Boerne,

Just like it sounds, every second Saturday of the month finds residents and visitors enjoying complimentary beverages and hors d’oeuvres from 4-8pm. Visitors can walk between the two or take the local quirky Shabby Bus.

At Carriage House Gallery of Artists, founded in 2003, artist/partners own and operate a charming stone cottage gallery just off Main Street in downtown Boerne. Twelve Hill Country artists show and sell in watercolors, oils, pottery, bronze, fused glass and more. Texas Treasures Fine Art Gallery & Sculpture Garden is located in a painstakingly restored historic building. The TTFA gallery is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year representing more than 30 acclaimed national and international artists. Fredericksburg is fast becoming a popular art destination, growing like wildflowers, with no end in sight. Fourteen art galleries participate in the monthly art walk by opening their doors at 10am for a full day of special events, shows and exhibits, artist demonstrations, and of course, Hill Country wine.

At Artisans, a Texas Gallery, art and crafts of the Hill Country are presented by artists working in media from jewelry to oil paintings to outdoor art. Fredericksburg Art Gallery is celebrating 40 years, specializing in representational wildlife, western, still life, portraiture and landscape. Sleek and sophisticated InSight Gallery represents prestigious artists such as members of Oil Painters of America, Cowboy Artists of America, Prix de West and more. Rounding out the fabulous fourteen are Agave Gallery, Cate Zane, Cowboy Bronze, Dan Pfeiffer Gallery, Eleven Squared Venue, Fredericksburg Art Guild, The Gallery at Vaudeville, Larry Jackson Fine Art & Antiques, RS Hanna Gallery, River Rustic Gallery and Whistle Pik Galleries.

Art, wine and appetizers are on the menu the second Saturday of every month from 4-7pm in the picturesque town of Wimberley. Fifteen galleries, most of them on or near Wimberley Square, offer a diverse selection of paintings, folk art, sculptures, jewelry, pottery, textiles, furniture, photography, fused glass and much more. Imagine is a fair trade gallery with crafts from around the world. Rancho Deluxe carries rustic and ranch art along with handmade home accents. Other participants include Red Hand Art, Linda Calvert Jacobson Wildflower Art Gallery and Grahamstockglass Gallery, Pitzer’s Fine Art Gallery at Wimberley Fine Arts Center, Moon Dance Arts, Gallery on the Square, Bent Tree Gallery, Under One Roof, Ply! Also known as the Nugent Street Art Walk, most of the participants stay open from 4-8pm offering libations, nibbles and occasional live music. Galleries include Taste Wine + Art, Texcetera, A. Smith Gallery, Echo and Studio Massaro; the remaining location is the working studio of fine artist and muralist Lee Casbeer.

Amenity Reservations on the Ranch

Cordillera Ranch offers a variety of amenities for property owners and the new POA website allows online reservations for those amenities. To place a reservation request, simply log into the Cordillera Ranch POA website at www.cordilleraranchpoa.com, use the drop down on the For Residents tab and select Reservations, which lists the multiple amenities available. Property owners will then need to select which amenity they wish to reserve, and fill out the online form. The completed form is sent to the POA to review, at which time the POA will approve or deny the request. Once a decision has been made by the POA, the property owner is notified.

Where Do You Spend Your Time?

I recently read a story retold by the father of a young family of three that included himself, his wife and their young daughter. According to his recounting, after dinner they were each challenged to share an object symbolic of how they would describe one another to a stranger. When it was the daughter’s turn to share the item she thought to be representative of her father, she produced a cell phone. At her young age, she wasn’t taking a sarcastic “shot” at her dad, rather, it was how she truly saw him when he was home.
