Pickleball and Prosecco to Collect Toys

By:
Joe De Luna, Director of Tennis and Pickleball

In conjunction with Cordillera Cares’ effort to support the Kendall County Sheriff’s Foundation Blue Santa program, the Tennis and Pickleball Club hosted Pickleball and Prosecco. More than 30 members joined together to donate over 100 toys for the drive and participate in an open play pickleball event. After play, the members enjoyed lunch on the back patio of the Main Clubhouse.

The Blue Santa Toy Drive was established to provide families in need with assistance in providing their children with Christmas gifts that they would not otherwise receive. It is an amazing program that has helped many families during the holidays and continues to grow each year. We would like thank all of the Cordillera Ranch members who donated in 2023!

The inaugural San Antonio International Team Tennis Championships, presented by Frost, H-E-B and SA Sports, took place on November 10-12, 2023. Two teams, consisting of top ATP and WTA players, included The San Antonio Smash, led by Venus Williams, Victoria Azarenka, John Isner, Bob Bryan and JJ Wolf, and captained by Wayne Bryan, and The Austin Capitals, headed up by Sophia Kenin, Peyton Stearns, Gael Monfils, Mike Bryan and Sam Querry, and captained by Murphy Jensen. College players from Baylor, UT Austin, Texas A&M, UTSA, UIW, UTPB, Trinity and Southwestern, along with top ranked juniors from John Newcomb’s Tennis Ranch and Austin Tennis Academy, also participated.

Several Cordillera Ranch members attended this incredible event, which featured three former World Number One ranked women and the best Men’s Doubles Team of all-time. We look forward to next year’s event with even more members in attendance. Thank you for all who attended!

Where Do You Spend Your Time?

I recently read a story retold by the father of a young family of three that included himself, his wife and their young daughter. According to his recounting, after dinner they were each challenged to share an object symbolic of how they would describe one another to a stranger. When it was the daughter’s turn to share the item she thought to be representative of her father, she produced a cell phone. At her young age, she wasn’t taking a sarcastic “shot” at her dad, rather, it was how she truly saw him when he was home.
